Autumn Doeskin Bird Walk

Come out to bird on a crisp fall day at Doeskin Ranch, one of the prettiest and birdiest spots in Balcones National Wildlife Refuge!  We will explore a woodland area, a prairie area and a creekside area of Doeskin to see what birds are enjoying the fall day too.  You never know what you will find on any given day in this classic Hill Country terrain, but common resident birds include “Black-crested” Titmice, Bewick’s Wrens, Northern Cardinals, Rufous-crowned and Field Sparrows, with Turkey Vultures often flying overhead. People with all different levels of birding experience are welcome!

What to Bring: Wear a hat and comfortable hiking shoes, and bring water , snacks, and bug spray.

.Directions:  Doeskin Ranch is on RR 1174. If you are coming from the south, it is about 1.5 miles north of the intersection of RR 1174 and Cow Creek/County Road 328. If you are coming from the north, it is 2.3 miles south of the intersection of RR 1174 and RR 1869. It is on the east side of RR 1174. Phone based GPS will not work in the valley. A printable map is available here.

If Raining: If it is raining, the activity will be cancelled. Sadly, our feathered friends like to hide when it is raining.

Registration is Limited & Required
