WHEN TO ENTER
The 2014 Balcones Songbird Festival Photo Contest will begin February 15, 2014 at 12 p.m. US Central Time and will end April 1, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. US Central Time. By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to the official rules and that his/her entry complies with all of the official rules.
Winning photographs will be announced April 25, 2014 at the Wings and Wine Benefit Dinner and will be displayed throughout the Balcones Songbird Festival. Due to limits on space, not all prints may be displayed at the dinner.
WHAT TO ENTER
Each photo must contain a bird species from the Checklist of the Birds of the Balcones Canyonlands NWR Area listed as (C) common, (FC) Fairly-common, or (U) Uncommon at any time during the year. This list can be found here.
The categories for entries are:
There is a strict limit of two (2) entries per category per entrant. Each category will judged separately.
The following information must be submitted with each entry:
(1) species identification
(2) the date the image was taken
(3) the location the image was taken
(4) the full name of the photographer
Please include the category and photographer name in the subject line of the submission email. FOBCNWR reserves the right to disqualify incomplete entries and to verify the validity and originality of any entry and/or entrant.
Photographs must have been taken within two (2) years of the date of entry and may not previously have won an award in any photo contest (grand prize, first prize, second prize, third prize).
The contest is open to all photographers at least 18 years of age.
FOBCNWR shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.
HOW TO ENTER
Each photo must be submitted electronically, via email to BSF2014PhotoContest@friendsofbalcones.org
Photographs must be submitted in digital format, but do not have to be taken with a digital camera.
(1) All files must be 6 megabytes or smaller
(2) must be in JPEG or JPG format
(3) should be at least 1,800 pixels wide (landscape) or 1,800 pixels tall (portrait)
ALTERATIONSMinor adjustments to entries regarding color and sharpness as well as cropping are acceptable. Watermarks are not acceptable. Multiple exposures combined to create high dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are not acceptable. Entries that do not meet these requirements may be disqualified at the judge’s discretion.
COPYRIGHTS AND RELEASESPhotographs containing works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud. If people are included in photographs, entrant is responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals shown and should be able to provide copies of those releases to FOBCNWR upon request.
RIGHTSBy submitting an entry, entrant grants FOBCNWR license to publish and display entries for use in promotional materials without compensation. FOBCNWR shall credit all photographs with entrant’s name.
