Jim Gilchrist died peacefully Thursday, June 3, 2010
after his long battle with leukemia. As many of you know, Jim was a long time volunteer and active member of the Friends of Balcones since its inception. It was his gentle guidance and patient perseverance that built the solid, successful Friends group we pride ourselves with today. He worked tirelessly on advocacy for refuge acquisition and was instrumental in the development of our Conservation Giving Program.
Jim supported the Refuge in many ways with surveys for Golden-cheeked Warblers and with many events and activities too numerous to mention. Jim was a true friend and supporter. His passion for the Refuge and its habitat has left a mark on our souls
and the Hill Countries landscape.
