Trail Day at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge

   7:30 am – 3:00 pm

                                                  


Goal- Introduce others to the Refuge and have some fun

BRING A FRIEND (or two)

Schedule

7:30 am Meet at Refuge Headquarters 

              24518 FM 1431, Marble Falls, TX 78654

Volunteers should bring their own gear and tools they work with best.  The refuge will have some weed whips, loppers, pruners, rakes and shovels.Bring water, wear closed shoes, hat and gloves.Disperse to Wabler Vista, Doeskin Ranch & Headquarters.


8:00-10:30 Trail Work

Warbler Vista- Cactus Rock & Ridgeline Trails- clean flood debris, cut back trees, shrubs. Reapply mulch at entrances to Ridgeline, Cactus Rocks & Sunset Deck. May install plants at kiosk.

Headquarters- Flood damage to Creek Trail lower loop, move boulders & rocks to clear trail. Cut back trees,grass & shrubs. Photo blind, cut back plants, remove Bermuda grass, trim and clean up area. HQ building clean up flower beds.

Doeskin- Shin Oak, Rimrock & Indiangrass Trails, cut back trees & shrubs from trails, weed whip tall grasses.


11:30-12:30 Meet the Refuge & Lunch Flying X

1:00- 3:00 Tour the Backcountry

Group 1 Peaceful Springs- see the newest acquisition planned for the refuge

Group 2 Simon Tract- tour cave entrance, Black-capped vireo habitat, habitat manipulation & grassland restoration

*Lunch will be provided by JJ's Barbeque and served family style. Choose BBQ, fried chicken or vegetarian.
